There’s an old Rockabilly Classic that was recorded on March 28, 1958, and released July 21, 1958, by artist Eddie Cochran. Later recorded and released by Country Star, Alan Jackson in 1994. The title is “Summertime Blues”, but the catchphrase……”There Ain’t No Cure For The Summertime Blues” is what most folks remember. It’s a great song…..right up my musical alley. However, there really is a cure for the “Summertime Blues.”
It’s ALL about you and your imagination! For those that have kids that are still in school. It has been a long treacherous school year. But it’s over now….for a couple of months anyway. So make the most of it! It’s time to unwind and let your hair down. Sure, for most, the kids are out of school but you’re still working. Well, you know what? It’s not the end of the world. Plan out summer activities for the entire summer. But let your kiddos know that it has to be earned. This is teaching them responsibilities in the process. So to start, grab a couple of poster boards, some markers or crayons and make a “Chore System” in place for the kiddos. This is their incentive for them to be able to participate in all of the activities that will be on their “Events Board” Make a poster board of events that will take place as rewards. But make it worth their while. Have the kids join in on making their both boards.
Have fun together making both Event & Activity Boards.
When designing and making their chore system, make it simple. Don’t overwhelm them with all of these outlandish chores. Just make it so, that they are excited to do it in order to get their reward. Anything from emptying the trash, putting away toys, picking up their room to raking the leaves. Down and dirty cleaning should never be a part of this equation. You want this to keep their interest. When planning fun activities, they can be as simple as playing in the sprinkles with water balloons. Making homemade Popsicle’s to having a pizza movie night with the TV set up in the backyard. There can be sleepovers with their friends, tent camping in the back yard, scavenger hunts or even arts & crafts. The activities are endless!
You will be amazed at how much fun this will be for the kids. Be sure to include a few activities that will be the icing on the cake. Like a day at the beach, going to the zoo, a trip to the water park or even a theme park. Don’t forget the sunscreen. The sun will cook their skin! Save the biggest and best event for last, right before school starts. This can be there “summertime fun finale” of the summer!
