Ahhhh……the Music of Motown….you haven’t lived until you “jived” to the sounds of Motown. But before I share with you some great songs….and some of my favorites….how about a brief history lesson first.
Motown Records
Motown Records is an American record label that was owned by the Universal Music Group. It was founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. as Tamla Records on January 12, 1959, and incorporated as Motown Record Corporation on April 14, 1969. Its name…..a blend of motor and town, has become a nickname for Detroit, where the label was originally headquartered. (Wikipedia)
Motown specialized in a type of soul music it referred to with the trademark “The Motown Sound”. Crafted with an ear towards pop appeal, the Motown Sound typically used tambourines to accent the back beat, prominent and often melodic electric bass-guitar lines, distinctive melodic and chord structures, and a call-and-response singing style that originated in gospel music.
Soul Touching Music
It is….exactly that….soul touching music. It doesn’t matter if you’re slow dancing to Smokey Robinson and The Miracles …or rockin’ to The Temptations....the music and lyrics will touch your soul. The music is timeless and once you listen to the music…..your guaranteed to be hooked…I know this…..because…I am a fan…..so….sit back and get ready to be “hooked”. Let’s get this party started!
There you have it…..just a few of my favorites from just a few of the great artists of Motown. I hope for some of you…I took you down memory lane…..and yet for all of the others…I hope you that you too will love……the “Sounds of Motown”.
