Seriously??
There are just some things in life that just need to be taken with a grain of salt. Never let it get the best of you. Just “sort-of let it roll off of your back. Don’t dwell on the “small-stuff”….it’s over-rated!
“With a Grain of Salt”…or a “Pinch of Salt”, is an idiom of the English language, which means to view something with skepticism or not to interpret something literally.
It’s a known fact that when letting things get the better of you or stressing out can absolutely affect your health. The little things that easily go from making a mountain out of a molehill…to a complete avalanche of doom and gloom. Seriously? Why?…..why allow things, situations, and even people get the better of you?
It’s All Of The Little Things…
Life is full of ups and downs…..twists and turns. It’s the way that things are handled is what really matters. But when you let all of the little things, bog you down and get the best of you. Then it’s just sometimes way too hard to pick yourself up. I’m so guilty of this but have learned to try to handle any issue or situation….. one at a time.
But why do we really let things bother us so? Could it be that we really have no patience for “the small stuff”? Absolutely!! If I were to bet, well I would say, waiting, is hands down one of the things that people really don’t like to do. From standing in line at the grocery store to sitting in traffic. Oh, and let’s not forget sitting in a doctor’s office. We all hate to wait…..because we simply have no patience for it.
“Is There A Doctor In The House?”
Let me try and clarify a few known facts about sitting in a physician’s office. Being that I have been in the medical field, for close to 40 years I have “experience” in knowing why this really is. Overbooking is a very small percentage as to why most medical offices run late. If the truth is known, it can actually be a “domino effect” of several little things. For example, if a patient shows up late, or they show up on time but are extremely slow filling our forms. This can cause a delay. Yes, the doctor can and will end up running late. Plus unexpected emergencies can happen. But I can tell you from a patient standpoint…..when a patient gets “off-task” in the exam room and starts talking about everything else except what should be discussed, then the schedule starts to domino and the entire day is doomed!
The point that I’m trying to make is that when you go to any medical appointment, be prepared to stay and wait awhile. We know that your time is important too. Believe me, I feel your “waiting-room” pain. I stress out right along with you when the clinic runs behind. So, bring a book and be prepared to wait. Your health depends on it.
The dreaded traffic jam!
Expressway To Your Heart
Sitting in traffic…oh, it’s the worse….we all hate it. But can you do anything about it? Not really, because getting where you need to go will probably involve sitting in traffic. What makes sitting in traffic even worse, is when you finally get to the area of traffic where you thought had something going on…..where…”Poof”, all gone. No stalled car, no accident, no tire in the middle of the freeway, no nothing!!! What was the hold-up people!!!! A fantom wreck? Oh geez, so the drive continues on.
I am the world’s worse for taking my own advice, but I will gladly give it to you. Make the most out of your drive, you cannot get that time back. So, put down your phone….. turn up tune some tunes and enjoy your drive. It’s not like your going anywhere fast anyway!
It’s Not All That
Have a different approach when you feel something or a situation has either let you down or even made you feel a bit discouraged. Chances are, it may not be as bad ar difficult as it seems. Don’t dwell on the negativity of things, it can eat away at you. You really are better than what is bothering you or got you down. So, step back…take a breath and take another look at the problem. Once you do that, you may see it in a different light and it may not be as bad as it seems.
How About That Grain Of Salt!
Moaning and groaning and griping gets you absolutely nowhere. So, if the line your standing in seems to never be moving and the traffic jam you’re stuck in feels like there’s no end in sight. Remember that this is just a couple of things on a long list that you deal with in life, these things and so many more should be taken with a grain of salt.
Life is way too precious to hem and haw about things that are completely out of your control, at that exact moment. So just hang tight….wait your turn…and thank your lucky stars……you’re “Alive and Kickin'”.
Hey…and as for that salt……they’ve got a “Margarita” for that!
Cheers!! –Brenda
LOL I love this! Patience has never been my strong suit but it has gotten much better over the years. I learned a long time ago that the moaning and groaning doesn’t make things move faster so what’s the point. All it does is make me miserable and I don’t like that feeling! Great article!
Kimberly, your so sweet. I’m so glad that you enjoyed it. I too have to work on my “patience” skills from time to time! LOL I truly appreciate your kind words!! 🙂
The best place to apply this is with blogging! I find myself rehearsing positive mantras throughout the day. I just got started…so sprint, not marathon! Thanks for the reminder!😊
Thanks for the comment! Slow and steady pace Sandra…you’ve got this too! 🙂
You are so right! Overwhelm happens when try to figure out how to handle everything at the same time. Tackle one thing at a time (baby steps) and breathe! Thanks for your insights!
Great advice! I particularly enjoy the last part!
I learned to slow down and be patient since I arrived here in the US. Having medical problems after giving birth made me realized that our time and health is more important than to be hurried in our daily life. I enjoyed reading it, Brenda. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome April and thank you for commenting. I hope that you’ve continued to stay healthy.
