How Keto Changed Me

My New Keto Lifestyle

I must say that I have always had a “love-hate” relationship with dieting. Oh..it is so true. Can you relate? Dieting can completely rule your life…It did mine. I have never been one of the lucky ones that could eat what they wanted…whenever they wanted….rarely exercise and still look like a million bucks! Nope…that’s not me. I felt like I was always a “work in progress.” I always watched what I would eat….exercise….and take care of myself. However….those old pesky pounds would find me! Even more so when I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition over twenty years ago…this made keeping those pesky pounds…even harder to keep off!

Diet’s….Diet’s….and More Diet’s

Oh…yes I did! I tried them all at one time or another. From the Atkins Diet, twice….to Slim-Fast drinks and let us not forget the infamous Lean Cuisine meals. I have even tried diet pills, which for me was the most effective….but I recommend them to no one! I must admit my favorite was the watermelon diet since I love watermelon. All of these diets worked briefly…but never lasted. But all of that ended November 2019 when my sister-in-law introduced my husband and me to Keto. I must admit, that when I read up on Keto, I said to myself….no way will I ever like this way of eating. Well….my friend, I am here to tell you…that I have been proven wrong. Our “eating” lifestyle has changed to a healthier and better way of living. We are no longer, “dieting” ….simply put….it’s our new eating lifestyle. But, let me also add…we are not 100% Keto…I would say….probably 85%….which is considered, “Dirty-Keto”. This is because I must have my Mexican food…that guilty pleasure will never change. We will fall off the Keto wagon…but briefly. Before I go any further, let me tell you that my goal was to lose 30 pounds, and as of this writing, I have lost 25 pounds….I’m not sure how many inches….but I’m here to tell you that it’s a lot!! My husband has lost 50…and hopes to drop 10 more. I am back in my size 6 jeans….. just like back from my high school days….forty plus years ago. I even liked what I saw in my two-piece bathing suit the other day!!

Annette Bosworth, M.D. AKA Dr. Boz

If you ever watched videos on YouTube or just love to read….and you are serious about changing your eating lifestyle…then Dr. Annette Bosworth is a definite must to check out. I am here to tell you that I was very skeptical about the whole Keto trend that even many of my friends have been on. But I took the time to read her book, “Anyway You Can.” This book is great…I read it in less than a week. It is a book about how Dr. Bosworth shares her mom’s cancer journey…..a beginner’s guide to Ketones for life.

This book really had me hooked. The scary thing was clearing everything out of our pantry and refrigerator…..but we did. I took more food to donate at the food pantry it was ridiculous. But let me back up just a bit. I have and never given up my Lay’s Kettle Jalapeno chips…and for my sweet tooth, I will have Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate I keep it in the refrigerator…in a little baggie and they’re cut into their little squares. It’s just enough to curb the “want” for something sweet. Oh, and on occasion, I will splurge and grab a teaspoon of peanut butter. A girl has got to do, what a girl has got to do!

Just Go For It!

I challenge you to just do it! Take the Keto leap…give it a try. I am here to tell you that I feel great! I no longer take medication for high cholesterol. Plus for me, the weight keeps coming off. I ride my recumbent bike every day…and walk in my neighbor for exercise. Did you know that eating healthy will lead to a healthy life? Sure it does. I splurge…I give in to that great food temptation…but I always get right back on track. Life is too short to not enjoy the foods that I love….but within moderation.

When I started this process…I had one goal in mind, and that was to feel less tired and just plain get healthy. So far….so good!! I was hoping to lose a little weight but never expected to be just shy of my goal…..for now.

Do I look as good as I feel….I’d like to think so.

  2. I try to live keto but I find it difficult, I’ll maybe managed a 2-5 days doing it a week, but with my reactive hypoglycaemia it’s stupidly hard to stick to. Plus I’m a lazy cook, and have limited space due to living in a house of multiple occupancy, so I can’t really batch cook either

    1. I agree with you. That’s why I’m not 100% Keto. At least you gave it a try.

  3. It is great that keto changed you! I hear so many people benefitting from weight loss through the keto diet. It sounds kind of crazy at first but once you get into it, it really works. Sometimes, you need to give certain foods up for the greater good of your health. Keep it up!!
