When Coffee Just Isn’t Enough

How Young…Is Too Young?

I remember my first introduction to the taste of coffee. I was in elementary school. Yes, you read it right. But it’s not as bad as you may really think. My younger sister and I would always ask our mama for toast and coffee for breakfast. Mama would fix us a half cup of coffee with sugar and milk in it. It was always such a pretty caramel color. She would then give us two slices of buttered toast. Then the magic would happen. We would tear pieces of the buttered toast apart and dip it in the coffee and eat it! That was it!! Eating that was the best thing ever! We would never drink the coffee because we really didn’t like the taste of it by itself. So, go figure.

From what I remember that only lasted for a couple of years, but what I do remember is that I never really acquired a taste for coffee until many years later on as I got older. I did, however, like to get my caffeine fix tho, but that came from drinking Dr. Pepper….and this my friend… is still my “soda” of choice.

One Cream and Two Sugars

Long ago..in a land far, far away before Starbucks. There were really only two ways to drink your coffee, and that was either black or one cream and two sugars. I chose the latter of the two. I could never really understand how anyone could drink their coffee black…for me, it was and still is just eww!!

Nowadays, you can get your coffee made so many different ways, from shots of espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos. To even ice coffee. I’m assuming that it all depends on how much caffeine your body is craving. I am guilty of having a cup of coffee every day, but that’s basically it. I could never be an all-day coffee drinker. I’m doing good to finish my one cup in the morning, because if it sits too long and gets cold then I’m done with it.

Did You Know?

Studies have shown that coffee may offer some health benefits. It is high in antioxidants and is linked to a reduced risk of many diseases such as protecting against type 2 diabetes, liver disease including liver cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Also, coffee appears to improve cognitive function and decrease the risk of depression.

It also contains caffeine, which is a stimulant that can cause problems in many people and also disrupt sleep. Drinking straight black coffee can reduce the inflammation level in the body because it’s filled with antioxidants. Black coffee is filled with Vitamin B2, B3, B5, Manganese, Potassium and Magnesium.

The Best Cup Of Coffee Ever

There is something so relaxing about drinking a hot cup of coffee while I’m just sitting outside in the early morning when we’re camping, whether it be in front of a stream or with the waves crashing on the beach. It can be the sound of the ocean or even early morning birds chirping. But, you know the serenity of just sitting out in your own back yard, on your deck or patio will do the trick just the same. It is all so calming and relaxing. But even if you happen to not be a coffee drinker, then hot chocolate will do just fine.

There’s one on every corner!

When Coffee Just Isn’t Enough

Waking up in the early morning, sometimes even at the very crack of dawn. When the morning is so very still that you can almost hear your very own heartbeat. Your body feels like coffee just isn’t going to be enough to get your day motivated and be ready to hit the ground running. Sometimes, coffee just isn’t enough….take the time to meditate….say your prayers… just reflect. It’s these little moments and so many more, that can get you motivated to take on the world.

Morning silence…it can be so relaxing…but for some, may even be daunting. It’s what you do with your alone morning time that will matter the most. Enjoy your early morning, “Cup-of-Joe”….but above all enjoy you….and everything that you have to offer to the world.

  1. You made my morning with this post! Nothing like a cup of coffee first thing in the morning to get you started on your day. My doctor told me not to drink it with high blood pressure, but as long as my blood pressure stays at a normal range, and it is only one cup, I am willing to take the risk, and look at the benefits it can give you too. Thank you for sharing this Brenda!
