Thanksgiving….my most favorite time of the year….there are no presents…or shopping or the hustle and bustle of mall crowds…..oh no….only….family….fun….and food. We all have a tendency to forget how really important the time that we have on this earth…with each other, really is…..until it’s too late. So for that reason….for me…Thanksgiving is the holiday for me.
Life…..it’s a gift all on its own and so easily taken for granted…..always put on the back burner….because we so easily forget….how precious each individual truly is. This doesn’t happen on purpose…..absolutely not! We all just get so caught up in our own everyday lives…that we forget the ones that really need us the most. Even if it’s only a brief visit or a telephone call.
Thanksgiving 2020……what a whirlwind year….and it’s not over yet. But still in all….time to give thanks and count our “battered” blessings. I say battered because our lives have truly taken a beating this year….we are bruised and worn…..but none the less…..we are thankful
Looking back at this year….2020….definitely one for the books….a year that we all are ready to put behind us for good…..and will so very soon.
This past year…. has tested us all in more ways than one….in ways that we never would have expected. This past year….has shown us all how to be strong in ways that we never thought that we could….has taught us all to pull together….to have hope….to try our very best to hold on to our dreams….because we will pull through the hardships that we have all faced this year of 2020.
But I believe…..yes…I always believe in the good and the joy in life…the promise of a better tomorrow….that things happen for a reason…and that moments in life happen when they are meant to happen. So with that being said…..I am so very thankful…..thankful that I am blessed to have family and friends that love me….for me…no matter what “quirks” that I possess….because it’s what you do. I am thankful for a job that has always been a blessing in my life for the past twenty-one years….blessed to have both of my parents still healthy and alive…..blessed….to understand right from wrong….even if I completely disagree. It is this and so many more reasons to be thankful.
2020…..the year with so much sadness and uncertainty….the year that so angrily stripped so much from everyone….worldwide…and continues to do so. But there is a beautiful light at the end of the tunnel…..so close that the urge to run to it is overwhelming…but wait…the learning and adjusting are still in the process…..the end is so close we can taste it….but remember…the world as we used to know it will never be the same again. It’s not a bad thing really….we will all be more cautious…more reluctant to just “jump in” to something….more guarded. But we will and life will become whole again.
2021….the year of promise…the year of learning and adventures….the year of hopes and dreams. On this Thanksgiving Day of 2020….amidst the hurt….sadness, and struggles…I and grateful and thankful…life goes on.
I open my heart to you…my friend….I am thankful for you….my wish for you and your family…is health…safety and lots of love.
I ask you to always remember….there is always something to be thankful for. Please feel free to comment on what you are thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving to you….from me.

Thanksgiving is such a good holiday – for exactly the reasons you wrote – it’s very focused on food and family, not gifts and santa.
As a Brit I’ve never done Thanksgiving, but it always seems strange that on Thanksgiving you don’t do more for Native Americans as a way to make amends for what happened afterwards. It just seems like a really odd thing to celebrate as an outsider. Also, instead of being thankful for stuff on Thanksgiving, wouldn’t it make more sense to do acts of kindness that you would then be thanked for as a tradition?
I completely agree. Being thankful should be an everyday thing. Not just once a year.
