It’s an absolute fact that we are never too old to get into shape. It’s simply put that motivation is the key to getting us all up and moving around. I truly believe that the main reason most people just don’t exercise is that we end up talking ourselves out of it. I’m guilty……I’ll admit it…..but not anymore….for me anyway.
The Dreaded Weight Game
It really is a numbers game….it’s a fact ….. so don’t dwell on what the scale says when you’re trying to lose weight. Especially when you don’t feel that the weight doesn’t seem to be coming off fast enough. I started my Keto journey in November 2019 with a goal of losing 25 pounds it has been eleven months and as of this writing I have exceeded my goal and I can proudly say that I have lost 32 pounds. I would “weigh-in” every Monday and would on occasion feel defeated if the scale wouldn’t move….but the fact of the matter is….is that I’ve lost so many inches that I really should have ignored what the scale read. I am no longer “dieting” only maintaining….eating healthier and continue with Keto…except for the occasional “cheat day.” One thing for me that hasn’t changed and probably never will is that I still step on the dreaded scale…..nope…..that will never change.
Exercising……And Keto
If the truth is know…..you really don’t even need to exercise if you are going all the way with Keto. I have exercised all of my life….one way or another. I had a full-blown membership to LA Fitness. I would go faithfully for years at least 5-6 days a week. I have owned a Stairmaster and a treadmill which I would use as well. My most recent purchase, which I found to be my most favorite piece of exercise equipment is a recumbent bike. I ride my bike at least 6 days a week….anywhere from 30-45 minutes. It’s just that easy.
But there are so many other ways to workout….to get toned and fit without joining a gym. That’s right….dancing…or maybe you can just YouTube floor exercises or even try…..jogging…..cycling…..and my favorite of all….walking. There are so many advantages to just walking that you’d be amazed at the advantages.
Walk…walk…walk…..this is what we preach to our patients that have had spine surgery, and even those that complain of back pain alone. There are so many benefits to walking as a form of exercise.
- You can walk at your own pace
- Walking is “heart-healthy”
- Tones up the legs
- Improves Circulation
- Improves Sleep
- Supports your joints
- Stops the loss of bone mass with osteoporosis
- Enjoy a longer life
- Lightens your mood because it releases a natural painkilling endorphin to the body
- Lose weight
- Improves your breathing
- Slows down the mental decline
- Lowers Alzheimer’s risk
- It’s FREE…FREE…..FREE!!
Free-Weights
Spice up your exercise program…..just a bit with free-weights. I use mine all of the time. I have a pair of 2- pound and 5-pound weights. My exercise program is quick and oh so easy…….I will play a 4-5 minute song from my Pandora selections and do all types of arm exercises with my 2-pound weights without stopping until the song is complete. Talk about “feeling the burn”…..because you will……and it will be so worth it…..so give it a try! One day…..maybe I’ll graduate to the 5-pound weight….but not anytime soon.
Live Your Life Healthy
There are so many pieces to the puzzle of our lives…and being healthy is a big part of it. But this should always include our inner and mental health just as much. The people in our lives play such a big part just as much as we do for our own selves. So never forget about every aspect in our lives to round out a healthy life.
Exercising….really…..don’t sweat it…..it’s easier than you think and the outcome is outstanding. So….never forget….you’re never too old to live healthy and happy. So….go for it…you’ll be glad that you did.

This is so true! Diet is 80% of weight loss. I used to workout for an hour a day so I could eat junk, now I just eat what I should and work out 20 mins a day. I get so much time back this way!
