Superstitions…Do You Believe?

Superstitious…A Belief in Chance Or Magic

The Latin word that superstitious comes from is superstitionem….it is excessive fear of the gods. Aren’t we all, just a little superstitious? Well, I’m fairly certain that everyone is… in one way or another. But what does it really mean to even be superstitious? If you’re superstitious, you most certainly are likely to avoid crossing paths with black cats…walking under a ladder or maybe stepping on a crack, because you know what they say….and you don’t want to break your mama’s back! It’s the fear of having days or heaven forbid… even years of bad luck in one way or another. Is it really just all in our minds…….probably.

But what about the belief in the Chance or Magic of all things……superstitious? I for one, take Friday the 13th with a grain of salt. It really doesn’t bother me at all. It’s just a number…because frankly my friends…I’ll take any date on the calendar as long as it’s a Friday! Wouldn’t you agree?

Oh, the dreaded crack in the sidewalk. When I was a young girl I remember that for years I would skip over and do whatever I could just to avoid stepping on any cracks. There was no way, that I was going to be responsible for my mama breaking her back! Oh, and I’m here to let you know that my skipping over all of those cracks…all of those years ago worked! My mama’s back is just fine! 🙂

What are some samples of unlucky superstitions…..you ask? Well, here you are.

  1. Never let a black cat cross your path….because if it does, it’s a sign of bad luck. The person should always walk the opposite way to avoid bad luck.

With bad, there is always good. So here are a few of good-luck superstitions.

Lucky Charms are really meant to motivate and inspire. So many people, including myself, swear by lucky charms…..while others think that they’re just plain silly. Regardless of what anyone thinks….lucky charms, no matter what they may be, will lead to a positive attitude and ultimately just be a whole lot of fun.

Lucky Numbers

777 probably the most popular set of numbers there is! The ancient Greeks called 7 the “perfect number” the sum 3 (triangle) and 4 (square) which are perfect forms.

Things Remembered

8 The number 8 with it’s two graceful curves, is also a balanced number. In China, this number is the luckiest of all. Lucky number 8 is for prosperity.

111 If you see this sequence of numbers all of the time this is a sign that the gate of opportunity is open. Many people also claim…as do I…that this is a message from your Angels that they are guiding you.

1111 When you see this “Angelic” number…it’s a special message from your Angels.

Superstitious Or Not

We all have our beliefs….whether your superstitious or not it makes no difference at all. It’s all in fun for some and a way of life for others…and you know what? That’s perfectly fine…that’s who we are…and that’s how it should be.

So, next time you find that lucky penny… go ahead, kiss it for good luck…I always do. Hey…you just never know…….Luck….may be a lady tonight.

  1. This made me smile, I’m not particularly superstitious as I was born on the 13th I have always thought it was a good number for me. I do ‘knock on wood’ and avoid opening an umbrella inside, oh and no peacock feathers inside either… Those are all thanks to my mother. My Dad never leaves the house with $13, he will take money out or add hehehe. In New Zealand we have a lot of things that are associated with our Maori culture that would be classed as superstition or ‘tapu’.
